Russia’s Stainless Steel Consumption
In the first half of this year, Russia’s demand for stainless steel picked up slightly, which is likely due to more active project activities in the market after the relaxation of measures related to the coronavirus.
From January to June this year, Russia consumed 273,000 tons of stainless steel, an increase of 27.3% over the same period in 2020. Cold-rolled flat steel demand increased by 13.3% year-on-year, long-term demand and wire rod demand increased by 15.2% and 43.9%, respectively.
According to SteelOrbis, during this period, imported stainless steel accounted for 75.3% of Russia’s total stainless steel consumption, while domestically produced stainless steel accounted for the remaining 24.7%.
