Application of Stainless Coils in Several Major Industries
From the analysis of the stainless coils application industry, the automotive industry is currently the fastest growing stainless steel coil application field. In the past ten years, the consumption of stainless coils for automobiles in Japan has increased from an average of 10 kilograms to 30 kilograms, and the United States has exceeded 40 kilograms.
Stainless coils are also widely used in public transportation vehicles such as buses, subways, and high-speed railway vehicles. China’s home appliance industry is a potential large market for the application of stainless coils. In addition, the demand for stainless coils in the water industry, construction and structure industry, environmental protection industry, and industrial facilities will also increase year by year.
1. Vehicle/Automotive Industry
This is currently the fastest growing application area of stainless steel coils. The use of high-strength stainless steel coils to manufacture the car body structure can greatly reduce the vehicle’s own weight and increase the strength of the car body structure. Using stainless steel coils as the vehicle panel and decorative parts can reduce maintenance costs. In addition, the stainless steel coil is also used in the exhaust system of the car because of its resistance to chloride ion corrosion and heat resistance.
Now, Japan, the United States, Sweden and other countries have used a large number of stainless steel coiled vehicles. Japan began to promote it in the 1980s, and currently its stainless steel coiled train vehicles have reached 60%. The car industry is the development focus of the application of stainless steel coils.
2. Water industry
People have paid more and more attention to the problem of water pollution during its storage and transportation. A lot of practice has proved that stainless steel coils are the best material for water industry such as water preparation, storage, transportation, purification, regeneration, and desalination. Its advantages are: corrosion resistance, earthquake resistance, water saving, sanitation (no rust and copper green), light weight (1/3 reduction), less maintenance, long life (40 years of use), low life cycle cost (LCC), It is a green and environmentally friendly material that can be recycled and reused.
According to reports, at present, pipe stainless steel coiling in Tokyo, Japan has reached 76%, and the pipe leakage rate has dropped from 14.7% to the current 7.5%. After the earthquake in Osaka, Japan, the stainless steel coiled water storage tank was intact. Recently, Japan has developed a bellows joint, which reduces the construction cost of stainless steel coiled water pipelines by 20%, the total cost by 3%, and the maintenance cost by 3/4.
3. Construction industry
It is one of the earliest applications of stainless steel coils. In terms of architectural decoration, at present, stainless steel coils are mainly used for exterior walls, interior and exterior columns of high-rise buildings, handrails, floors, elevator siding, doors and windows, curtain walls and other interior and exterior decoration and components. The surface-treated, colored, and plated stainless steel coiled plate solves the problem of easy fingerprints after touching, and further expands the scope of application of the stainless steel coiled plate.
Japan has developed a variety of stainless steel coiled roofing materials, such as high and medium chromium ferrite and various coated plates with better corrosion resistance. The super-clean brushed surface stainless steel coiled plate developed by Sweden and the UGITOP surface plate developed by Ugine of France provide new choices for the construction industry.
4. Home appliance industry
In the household appliance industry, stainless steel coils are mostly used in automatic washing machines, water heaters, microwave ovens, and refrigerator linings, and ferritic stainless steel coils are mostly used. The proportion of stainless steel coils for household appliances in Western Europe is relatively large, and in Asia, except for Japan, which is close to the European level, it is generally used less.
In 1999, the consumption of ferritic and martensitic stainless steel coils in the Japanese home appliance industry reached 28%, and the consumption of austenite accounted for 12%. my country’s microwave ovens, refrigerators, air conditioners, TVs, etc. are already competitive export products in the world, and the domestic appliance industry is a potential big market for stainless steel coil applications. It is estimated that in the next 5-10 years, the demand for stainless steel coils in my country’s home appliance industry will reach 100,000-150,000 tons.
5. Environmental protection industry
Industrial waste gas, garbage, and sewage treatment equipment need to be made of stainless steel coils. In the flue gas desulfurization process, in order to resist the corrosion of sulfur dioxide, chloride ions, and iron ions, duplex stainless steel coils and high-grade austenitic stainless coils are required in absorption towers, coolers, pumps, valves, flues, etc. . Waste incinerators, wastewater treatment facilities, and other facilities need to be made of high-performance stainless steel coil materials.
6. Industrial facilities
The proportion of stainless steel coils used in industrial facilities in developed countries can generally reach 15%-20%. At present, the proportion of domestic applications is still very small. On the one hand, it is due to the introduction of a complete set of industrial equipment, and the stainless steel coil materials are not counted. On the other hand, it is because domestic materials have not yet been adopted.
Chemical, petrochemical, chemical fiber, paper, food, medicine, energy (nuclear power, thermal power, fuel cell), and other fields require stainless coils. In addition, the existing imported equipment has entered the maintenance period. With the improvement of the quality of domestic stainless steel coil products and the development of special brand products, the application of stainless coils in domestic industrial facilities will increase year by year.
