The cold rolling and hot rolling of 304 stainless steel pipe will affect the microstructure and properties of the steel. The rolling of steel is mainly based on hot rolling, and cold
rolling is only used to produce small steel and thin plates.
The difference is as follows:
1. Cold-formed 304 stainless steel allows local buckling of the cross-section so that the post-buckling bearing capacity can be fully utilized; hot-rolled steel does not allow local
buckling of the cross-section.
The residual stress distribution on the cold-formed thin-wall steel section is curved, while the residual stress distribution on the hot-section steel or welded 304 stainless steel
the section is thin-film type.
3. The free torsional stiffness of hot-rolled 304 stainless steel is higher than that of cold-rolled 304 stainless steel. Therefore, the hot-rolled 304 stainless steel pipe has better
torsional performance than the cold-rolled 304 stainless steel pipe.
