Shanghai Krupp Stainless Steel Co., Ltd. was established in 1998 as a joint venture between ThyssenKrupp Stainless Steel, a subsidiary of ThyssenKrupp Group, and Shanghai Pudong Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. ThyssenKrupp Stainless Steel Company (formerly Krupp Thyssen Stainless Steel Company) holds 60% of the shares, and Shanghai Pudong Iron and Steel Group holds 40%.

Shanghai Pudong Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. was established in 1913, with an annual output of 1,800,000 tons of crude steel and 2,000,000 tons of finished products. It is one of the largest alloy and stainless steel medium and thick steel production plants in China. There are 12,000 employees and total sales of RMB 5.5 billion, totaling USD 660 million. In addition to supplying the Chinese market, the products are also exported to the United States, Canada, Japan, South Korea, and Southeast Asia. Shanghai Pudong Iron and Steel Co., Ltd. is one of the main steel production enterprises in Baosteel Group. Its alloy steel and stainless steel products have considerable competitiveness and market share in the Chinese market.
Business Scope
ThyssenKrupp Stainless is responsible for ThyssenKrupp’s international stainless steel business, including: ThyssenKrupp Nirosta (Krefeld, Germany), ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali Terni SpA (Terni, Italy), ThyssenKrupp Mexinox SA de CV (San Luis Potosi, Mexico), ThyssenKrupp VDM GmbH (Werdohl, Germany, the company is located in Germany and the United States and produces nickel-based alloy products). There are more than 12,000 employees engaged in stainless steel production, with sales of 4.4 billion euros in the 1999/2000 fiscal year and sales of 2,000,000 tons of stainless steel plates, including 1,500,000 tons of cold-rolled coils and 500,000 tons of special steel and alloy products. ThyssenKrupp Stainless has become the world’s largest supplier of stainless steel plates.
