Recently, the international standard for ferronickel testing (ISO23156:2021) developed by JISCO was officially released and implemented on the official website of the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). This standard is formulated on the basis of the Chinese national standard drafted under the auspices of JISCO and will play an important role in promoting the green, environmental protection, intelligence, and efficiency of quality arbitration testing in the world trade of ferronickel.
This international standard was first proposed by the Inspection and Testing Center of Jiu Steel Group Corporation in 2013, and the project was formally established in January 2018. The chief engineer of the center, Zhu Weihua, served as the convener and person in charge of the project. After the project was established, the project team worked hard to win the support and collaboration of experts from various countries.
After nearly a thousand groups of experiments, nearly a hundred demonstrations, and dozens of rounds of communication and discussion, the project team went through multiple rigorous processes from drafts of new project proposals to draft publications. The draft standard was reviewed by the International Committee for Standardization and was unanimously approved by experts from various countries. It was passed unanimously in December 2020 and officially promulgated and implemented on March 26, 2021.
Ferronickel is an important alloy raw material for the production of stainless steel, and its quality inspection results directly affect the economic benefits of the producer and the user. my country is the world’s largest user of ferronickel and needs to import a large amount of ferronickel for stainless steel smelting every year. The issuance of international testing standards plays an important role in the process of ferronickel trade.
Previously, the international standards for nickel-iron detection mainly used manual chemical analysis methods to determine single elements separately, which was time-consuming and labor-intensive and used a large number of dangerous chemical reagents. In 2009, the Jiuquan Steel Inspection and Testing Center successfully developed an inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry method for copper, phosphorus, cobalt, chromium, and manganese in ferronickel, and completed the drafting and release of the national standard for instrument testing methods accordingly.
This is the first time that JISCO has presided over the development and formulation of an international standard for ferronickel testing, and it is also the first ISO international standard proposal in our province to be established and promulgated. It marks a breakthrough in technological innovation in the field of JISCO inspection and a new level of standardization of inspection and testing. , The voice of China Jiu Steel and Gansu appeared in the international trade of ferronickel.
The internationalization of my country’s ferronickel testing standards has strengthened China’s influence and voice in the field of international ferronickel standards.
